ABSTRACT

Through nearly 40 years of development，the furniture manufacturing industry in China has caught the opportunities brought by the transfer of the international furniture industry，the increasing openness of the international market and the rapid expansion of the domestic market，and achieved rapid growth and become the world’s largest furniture producer and exporter. Furniture industry cluster has achieved a high degree of agglomeration，but most furniture enterprises’ main businesses are basically at the low level of the global value chain manufacturing link，and enjoy only a tiny slice of market share in the global furniture industry competition. The improvement of international competitiveness of the furniture industry depends on the collaborative innovation of the whole industrial chain. However，the improvement of the overall innovation ability of the furniture industry was badly affected by the low industry concentration of the furniture industry and the short innovation ability of small and medium-sized enterprises in this industry. How to integrate the quality resources in the furniture industry chain to complete the collaborative innovation of furniture design，production，management，etc.，has become the key issue in the transformation and upgrading of the furniture industrial cluster，especially with the aids of colleges and universities，research institutes，government，furniture associations and financial institutions.

Firstly，the development status and research background of the furniture industry in China are analyzed to show the significance of furniture industry cluster transformation and upgrading. Based on the literature on the domestic and foreign industrial cluster innovation network，cluster collaborative innovation drivers，influencing factors，operating mechanism and innovation performance，this book establishes the basic framework of research on collaborative innovation of the furniture industrial cluster combining with the current situations of furniture industrial cluster. Secondly，based on the analysis on the forming conditions of the furniture industry cluster，this research builds the structure model of cooperative innovation of furniture industrial cluster on the “innovation subject-innovation resources-innovation environment-innovation function” perspective，analyzes the functions of collaborative innovation of the different organizations in the furniture industrial cluster，and establishes the relationships between innovative organizations according to the theories of value chain and the social network cluster. Thirdly，on the basis of economics，synergetics and complex adaptive theory，it explains the mechanism of collaborative innovation of furniture industry cluster and provides theoretical basis for determining the influencing factors of collaborative innovation. Fourthly，After the analysis on the internal motivation，external motivation，technology innovation diffusion force，self-organizing driving force of the cooperative innovation of industrial cluster，it builds the driving system model of cooperative innovation，and makes an inquiry of the mechanisms of operating，communicating and learning，supplying，cooperating and trusting，and the motivating of the industrial cluster. Fifthly，the empirical study on collaborative innovation performance and its influencing factors of industrial clusters shows that besides the collaborative innovation network，collaborative innovation organizations，collaborative governance mechanism and collaborative innovation environment play significant roles in collaborative innovation performance. The evaluation grade of collaborative innovation performance of the furniture industry cluster in Qingdao City is above the middle，and the order of the evaluating scores is social，harmonious，advanced and economic dimensions respectively from high to low. Sixthly，focusing on the existing problems of the collaborative innovation of furniture industry clusters in Shandong Province，it proposes the collaborative innovation strategies in the respects of the furniture production system，circulation system，industry-university-research cooperation，financial institutions，furniture associations and government to promote the furniture industry cluster of cooperative innovation performance.

The research in this book can provide a systematic theoretical framework and diagnostic basis for solving the practical problems in collaborative innovation of furniture industry clusters，and promote to introduce the related policies or developmental planning to upgrade and transform the furniture industry clusters.
