Discussion guide/script

The actual study will be led by either a discussion guide (for moderated studies) or a script (for unmoderated studies). Both are deliverables that the UX researcher has to develop as a part of the study. We will cover these in subsequent chapters.

At this point, it is important to set expectations on how many review iterations will be included. Ideally, the UX researcher will present a first draft of the discussion guide or script to the stakeholders, and they will review it and provide their feedback. The UX researcher will then incorporate the feedback, in order to produce the final version that will be used in the study. Unfortunately, there are situations where multiple iterations are requested. We have run into this when the stakeholders are numerous and not fully aligned. In these constellations, the UX researcher is well advised to set the maximum number of review iterations at kick-off as multiple, unplanned iterations of the disussion guide (or script) will negatively impact the study schedule.
