Booting from VHD

To specify VHD disk as a boot disk and to boot from it, complete the following steps:

  1. With Windows PowerShell still open, enter Cd\ E:\Windows\System32 to change the directory from C: volume to E: volume.
  2. Enter BCDBoot E:\Windows to specify the VHD disk as a boot disk, as shown in Figure 2.5:

  1. Close Windows PowerShell and restart your computer.
  2. You will be prompted to start up from the VHD disk, as shown in Figure 2.6 (in my scenario, volume 3 is the VHD disk):

  1. As it is a new installation of Windows 10, you will be prompted to set up the region and keyboard, accept the Windows 10 License Agreement and set up an account (offline or online), Cortana, and privacy settings.
  2. After you have completed all the preconfigurations, then voila, you have logged in to Windows 10 running out of the VHD disk (see Figure 2.7):
