Implement Windows in an Enterprise Environment

This chapter is designed to provide you with the necessary information on how Windows 10 deployment in organizations is undertaken. From the configuration of Windows 10 devices to the setting up GPOs to automate the Windows 10 activation process in the organizations, they all present the tools and methods available to implement Windows 10 in an enterprise environment. With that in mind, this chapter explains the importance of provisioning, as well as software licensing and activation, in a deployment process. As such, it requires a sound knowledge of how to use the Windows Configuration Designer (WCD) tool for provisioning, as well as the Microsoft Volume Licensing options such as Active Directory-Based Activation (ADBA), and Key Management Service (KMS). Likewise, this chapter covers the Group Policies (GP) too by listing the steps required to set up a logon script via GPO. Each topic is accompanied by step-by-step instructions driven by targeted, easy-to-understand screenshot. It concludes with a chapter lab on User Account Control (UAC).

In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:

  • Provisioning with the WCD tool
  • Windows 10 software licensing and activation
  • Implementing ADBA
  • Implementing volume activation using a KMS
  • Querying and configuring activation states using the command line
  • Configuring Active Directory, including Group Policies
  • Chapter lab—configuring and optimizing UAC
