长腿叔叔史密斯先生：
您从不回答任何问题，也从未表示过对我做的事情有一丁点儿的兴趣。您可能是那些董事里最恶劣的一个，而您让我受教育不是因为您对我有丝毫的关心，而是出于一种义务的驱使。
我对您一点儿也不了解。我甚至不知道您的名字。写信给“一个东西”不会让人有兴趣。我一点儿也不怀疑您读都不读我的信，就将它们丢进废纸篓。今后，我应该只写关于课业的事。
我的几何学跟拉丁文上星期补考都通过了。它们都考过了，我现在没有其他的情况了。

My re-examinations in Latin and geometry came last week. I passed them both and am now free from conditions.
