PREFACE
Arrhythmias are always difficult and intricate for many medical students and doctors. I have taught the section of arrhythmias at International Medical School of Jinan University for more than 7 years, while there is no applicable textbook for students. Thus I have the idea of writing a book based on electrocardiogram in Chinese-English bilinguals. This book is intended for educational purposes, especially for medical students, international medical school students, postgraduate students, internal medicine doctors, emergency physicians and nurses. A doctor cannot be an excellent specialist if he cannot acquire knowledge much about arrhythmias, just like a racing driver cannot be a good driver without knowing much about engines. This book encourages readers to understand the basic information of ECG in short time. We have endeavored to make this book available to all levels of trainees, doctors or nurses. This book is divided into fourteen parts. The first part, “Basic knowledge of electrocardiogram”, introduces the ECG in the simplest possible terms. The following parts, from second to the thirteenth part, explain a series of arrhythmias in hundreds of classical ECG photographs and lively, interesting illustrations in details, which may help students to master numerous abnormal cardiac electrical phenomena in details easily and make learning process fun. Finally, the forteenth part, “Self-assessment”, offers some abnormal ECG for examinations.
The book is based on fundamental concepts and verified knowledge in electro-cardiology,which is also the guide of writing this book. Due to ongoing developments of electro-cardiology, the information in this book may not reflect some of the latest standards, regulations or guidelines. So the next edition of this book is responsible for keeping up to date with the latest developments in this field. And we are glad to accept valuable suggestions and helpful comments on this book, which must be benefit for the next edition.
We are extremely grateful to our colleagues at the Cardiology Department and ECG Department in the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, without their efforts, this book could not be published well. Thanks a lot for the great encouragement and help from the Chairman of ECG Training Expert Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Professor Xi-lie Lu, from Chinese PLA General Hospital. Lastly, we hope this book will be more helpful for readers.
