The peripheral limb electrode clips are correctly connected with wrists and ankles as Fig. 1-6:
Red clip is connected with right wrist.
Yellow clip is connected with left wrist.
Green clip is connected with left leg.
Black clip is connected with right leg.
Memory tips:
Clockwise sequence: red-yellow-green-black

The ECG can identify electrical activity in any direction of the heart. Generally, ten electrodes are placed on the skin of the limbs and the chest separately to record heart electrical activity in different directions. The electrode attached to the right leg is treated as an earth wire and does not contribute to any lead. It is named as 12-lead ECG because it records the electrical activities of the heart from 12 different angles, including six obtained from the “limb” leads (Ⅰ , Ⅱ , Ⅲ , aVR,aVL, aVF) and six from the “chest” leads (V1-V6).
心电图可以识别心脏任何方向的电活动。通常来说,10个电极被分别放置在肢体和胸壁皮肤,用来记录不同方向的心脏电活动。右腿电极被作为地线,不构成任何导联。因为其可以从12个不同的角度来记录心电活动,所以称之为标准12导联心电图。一般包括6个肢体导联(Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、aVR、aVL、aVF),以及6个胸导联(V1~V6)。
